What Happens at Home...

 Hi Parents!

We (The Church) have, on average, 40 hours with your kids every year (Taking into account sick days, holidays, travel for sports).  You (Parents) have, on average, over 3,000 hours with your children yearly.

So as I thought about this fact and prayed about what our Children's Ministry can do to impact the lives of the kids at New Life Fellowship, it became very clear that we can't do it alone. No one has more potential to influence a child's relationship with God than you. That's why we say at New Life fellowship...
"What happens at home, in many ways, is more important than what happens at church."

As New Life Kids, the Children's Ministry of New Life Fellowship, we promise to take full advantage of the 40 hours we have to lead each child in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ by (1) Communicating the Bible Creatively and (2) Connecting kids in small group communities for spiritual formation. Now here's where you come in: We want to (3) Collaborate with you, parents and caregivers to make a significant impact on the lives of your children for the Kingdom of God.

Deuteronomy 6:5-7 says...
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Well, how does that even look Rosie?  I'm glad you asked!  One of the ways is by simply being aware of what your child is learning here at church.  Ask your child's Small Group Leader or Teacher weekly.  Here are some ideas for our Elementary School Parents:
  • Pick up and read the Refrigerator Door Card.
  • On the way home from church or eating at a diner ask them what they learned today.
  • Ask them the question of the Refrigerator Door Card.
  • Sit with them and do a devotional from their God Time Card, perhaps as a family time activity or before bed.
For parents of children Nursery-Kindergarten: We will be introducing a new curriculum shortly called First Look (You can find out more info HERE). And with this curriculum comes a parent take home that you can use to talk to your kids about what they are learning here at church. For parents of babies and Toddlers there is something called "Parent Talk" as an encouragement for parents and for parents of older children there is something called "Small Talk". Take a look at a brief description of what these items are all about HERE (this is a PDF download). In the meantime talk to the teacher in the room and ask what the lesson for today was.

We are trying to help you engage in the spiritual life and formation of your child. And so these are just a few of the ways we will be partnering with you. So keep an eye and an ear out for more fun and exciting opportunities for you to engage your child on the things of God.

What are some things YOU do at home as a family to talk about the things of God? (Please leave us comments below!) :)
