Kids Discipleship Process:: We Believe

Most kids for their entire idea of who God is and whether or not they'll have a relationship with Him before leaving 5th grade.

It's because of this that New Life Kids has designed a place where parents and kids can start meaningful conversations about what it means to have a relationship with Jesus. That place is We Believe.

We Believe is one of the first steps in the New Life Kids discipleship process.

So I want to invite you to take an active role in the spiritual formation of your children and join me for We Believe.

We Believe is for parents and kids (K-5th grade). It's happening this Sunday, February 3rd at 10:30am in the Yellow Room.

The goal for effective family time is to focus on at least a few ways to connect with your kids.  It can feel a bit overwhelming when trying to establish family time in your home. So, what things can help you cultivate meaningful, yet simple family times?

{Elementary} 1-6th Grade ministry Sabbatical

In our latest Summer 2011 Newsletter we announced that their will be no programming for kids 1-6th grade for the month of August. Here is why behind it:
The Children's Ministry of New Life Fellowship has gone through numerous changes over the past 9 months or so. One major change was that of the transition of Children's Pastor Linda Johnson to Rosie Villodas. As you know transitions take a lot of work and time to be done well. A lot of behind the scenes work was going on during this time.  Besides that, there are many changes that have occurred since then:

{Elementary} Missed Last Sunday?

Forgiveness Week 2
Did your elementary school kids miss church last Sunday? It was a doozy! It was so fun learning how Jesus offered forgiveness to Zaccheaus and how that changed his life forever.

Here's a God Time Card you can download and use to help your kids spend some time with God this week and catch up on what we talked about this past Sunday.

(Click to download PDF)

Enjoy! They definitely don't want to miss next week! :)

{Guest Post} 2011 EHS Conference Attendee

Hi there all at New Life Fellowship,

I just want to thank you for the time you invested in us this past week. I can say it was a landmark event in our lives. It will have a far reaching effect. I want to share some of the immediate results of the conference with you for your encouragement and as a testimony of our great savior.

We have five children and homeschool them. Their ages are 12, 10 , 8, 6 and 4. So the whole idea of being contemplative seemed at first a little hard to do, but then God really showed me that it is something that I could teach the children to do even now. So the first Sunday when we got home, my husband lead our family in a lesson about Samuel and how even in the Bible God speaks to children. So he told them to spend some quiet itme with God and listen. We had talked to them about this before, but it was always more reading your bible to get something not just quieting your heart. My oldest daught had expressed to me that she was worried that she wouldn't be able to hear God. But I encouraged her that the goal was to just be with God and enjoy him, not always to hear something. (This was something that I learned at the conference) So after our quiet time, we asked the children if they had heard anything that they would like to share. Our oldest

{Elementary} What's Up with the Refrigerator Door & God Time Cards?!

About Refrigerator Door Cards (Parent Cue)
Refrigerator Door Cards are weekly updates for parents about what their children learned in large and small group.

Here's how to get the most out of your Fridge Door Card:
  • Read and familiarize yourself with the virtue for the month, and today's question.
  • Read the scripture references for "Today's Bible Story"
  • Ask your child(ren) "Today's Question" as a starting point for talking about what they are learning about God and themselves.

About God Time Cards
God Time Cards are weekly devotions for kids and parents to do together (K–3rd grade), or for older kids (4th–6th grade) to do on their own.  This is not homework and will not be checked by our teachers.  We are providing these cards to help create opportunities for the kids to spend time with God and in His Word. To encourage spiritual growth in the children.

Here's how to help your child get the most out of their God Time Card:
  • There are 4 different devotions on one God Time Card. Don't worry if your child doesn't do them all.  One is better than none!
  • Teach your child how to find verses in the Bible by showing them how to use the table of contents.
  • Encourage them to read the verses out loud, especially for those in the early stages of learning to read.
  • Guide your child to read and do the activity.
  • Pray a simple, short prayer aloud with your child, using the prayer suggestion as a guide.
Each God Time Card looks different, but the sections/categories are the same.  Here are some additional guides on how to help your child participate in God Time during the week based on Grade.
Guide for 4-6th grade God Time Card.
